Obituary of Frances May Slinn-Edgington

Frances was born February 19th, 1925, to Hugh and Effie Thompson in the Excelsior school district (Star City). She was the 4th of 5 children. On October 23rd, 1946, she married Herbert Slinn to this union two children were born Barry & Deborah. Herb passed away in 2001. Frances remarried Tom Edgington and remained together until his passing.
Mom enjoyed sewing, quilting, & cooking, especially her special buns, she also enjoyed reading & puzzles. Mom and Dad spent 38 years square dancing, and later took up cross-country skiing. Mom was the proud owner of a 2000 km ski pin.
Mom eventually worked at Assaly’s Jewelry store and was a cashier at the Co-op Coffee Shop. Herb and Frances were also a big part in Bruce and Deb’s auction business and helped whenever they could being cashiers etc., in the early years of starting up. Frances also kept helping after the computers came into play and she sorted invoices on auction day until her mobility got poor. Everyone at the auction Centre referred to her as “Grandma”. Bruce Schapansky Auctioneers would not be what it is today without the groundwork from Herb and Frances.
Frances was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Effie Thompson, brothers Hugh, Wilbert (June) Thompson, sisters Pearl (Herb) Cochrane, Irene (Ernest) Wise, her husband Herbert, her son Barry and Tom Edgington, sisters-in-law Mary (Frank) Moore, Edna (Hugh) Wright, Evelyn (Ray) Clapson, brother-in-law Henry (Frances) Slinn.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Bruce) Schapansky, grandchildren Courtenay (Vlad) Bondarchuck, Cory (Angie) Schapansky, great grandchildren, Satisa, Patrick, Graycee (Cody), Isis, Eden, Austyn (friend Nolan) and Cache, great great grandchildren Georgia, Ember, Amelia, sister-in-law Darlene Thompson, also many nieces and nephews and friends.
