Obituary of Lloyd James Taylor
Please share a memory of Lloyd to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lloyd James Taylor was born on March 15, 1932 to Archie and Isabelle Taylor in Taylorside, Saskatchewan. He was the first of four siblings, Helen, Verna, and Dale. Lloyd attended school at the Taylorside School until he began farming with his father.
Lloyd accepted Christ as his Saviour at the age of 18 and was part of the assembly at the Taylorside Gospel Hall.
Lloyd married Jean Cummings, his wife of 65 years, on July 21, 1954 in Arborfield, Saskatchewan. After marrying, they lived in Taylorside, where they raised their family on the same section where Lloyd had grown up. They had four children: Laurie Lloyd, Kent Archie, Patti-Jean, who passed away shortly after birth, and Wendi Jean.
Lloyd resided his entire life on Section 32, where he enjoyed farming with his family, starting with his dad and brother and eventually with his sons and grandchildren. Over the course of his farming years, there were many different men, too numerous to name, that worked alongside him. Lloyd cared for and valued every one of them, and always considered them part of his extended family.
Lloyd’s greatest joys in life came when he was with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved having the pictures of them in his phone and his screen saver was often the youngest child.
He was a generous and caring man, happy to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbours. Lloyd loved extending hospitality and his door was always open for visiting over coffee and delicious treats. In recent years, he taught himself how to cook full meals and was always interested in learning new recipes. One of Lloyd’s hobbies was growing and tending his garden and many flower pots.
Lloyd and Jean enjoyed travelling, and for many years, wintered in Yuma with family and friends. They also enjoyed several cruises with friends and spending time in the summer at Waskesiu Lake with family.
Lloyd will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn his children and grandchildren: Laurie (Pat), Erin, Bryn (Stephane), and Sean; Kent (Maureen), Brett (Kelly), and Riley (Holly); Wendi (Stan) Laine, and Reid. Lloyd is also survived by his sister Verna, sisters-in-law, Arlene, Peggy, and Lorraine, and his brother-in-law Cliff. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Jean, daughter Patti-Jean, parents Archie and Isabelle, his parents-in-law Henry and Isabell, his siblings Helen and Dale, his brothers-in-law Garry, Vernon, Elmer, Harold, and Garth, and sisters-in-law Muriel and Marjorie.
Memorial contributions in memory of Lloyd may be directed to the Melfort Hospital Palliative Care.
