Obituary
Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Louise (known as Louise) Kyler was born July 11, 1919 in Union Star, Missouri. Her mother was in Missouri visiting family, while there gave birth to a beautiful blue eyed baby girl. When they returned to Canada Louise was raised on the family farm in the Queens Park district. She attended Queens Park school until grade 8. She left home at the age of 17 to commence working with various families in the Melfort and Star City areas. It was while working at the various homes where she learned to sew, quilt and of course cook and garden.
During her younger years, she enjoyed attending dances and playing softball. She met her future husband (Jack) at the dances she attended. They were married December 11, 1946. The first farm they owned was south of Star City in the Oriole district. She enjoyed being a member of the Oriole district ladies club. Mom had a large garden and helped with other farm duties (milking cows.) The 3 children were born while residing at that farm.
The family moved to Alberta in 1958 where Dad worked as a farm hand for Sigurd Nielsen and Mom cooked for the other hired men who also worked there. After one year, the family moved back to Saskatchewan and Dad got hired as a farm hand at the Bill Dickie farm just outside of Melfort. They worked there for 22 years. They bought a house in Melfort and moved there in 1982 where she looked after a large garden and enjoyed the many flower beds and pots or baskets she planted each year.
Mom got involved with senior bowling and thoroughly enjoyed the teams she played on and they experienced much success. It was during this time frame that Mom started working part time as a nurse’s aid at Parkland Regional Care Home. She spent 18 years working there, made many friends and was a very caring person to the residents. She also coached softball teams Arlene and Charlene played on. During these years, Mom was also a member of the Central Park ladies club.
After Dad passed away, Mom stayed in her house until 2012 when she sold it and moved to Bemister Place condos. She enjoyed living there where she continued to do her own cooking, cleaning, etc. until the wonderful age of 103. After a hip surgery in 2023, she moved to the care home in Cudworth. She was happy living there and enjoyed the activities they provided. The staff was excellent and caring – only fitting for a woman who was so caring and loving throughout her life.
Mom was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, made wonderful quilts, and cross stitched pictures and of course, was an amazing cook. Our family and some of her friends have many examples of her quilting and cross stitching talents. She was a very independent woman. She cared deeply about her family and was very proud of their accomplishments. She was a hard worker, never complained about much and was truly an amazing person.
Mom enjoyed a game of cards, bingo, doing jig saw puzzles, travelling and watching hockey, baseball, curling on tv. She was a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
She will be missed but would want all who had the chance to enjoy her company for so many years to just cherish those times.
Our family wants to express our sincere thanks to all who have visited, phoned or helped Mom in any way throughout her life.
Mom is survived by daughters: Charlene Johnston (friend Al), Arlene Ritchie (George), daughter-in-law: Shirley McKee, grandchildren: Deryk Johston, Corrie McKee (Carrie, Carissa Grimard (Gerard), great grandchildren: Karley Grimard, Olivia Grimard, Chelsea Walker (Spencer), great great granddaughter: Rosalie Walker as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack, son Lyle, grandson Dean, parents, Jack’s parents, all her siblings, all Jack’s siblings, numerous nieces and nephews
