Elaine White was born ready and was eternally young at heart. She was never afraid to be bold, speak out or stand up for the people she loved or what she believed in. She burned bright with talent, willpower, tenacity and a sense of individuality and independence that inspired the people who loved her.
She left the small town for the big city as a teenager and loved her time in Vancouver and Calgary, going to dances, working as a telephone operator and starting her family.
She adopted Shannon, her only daughter in 1974, and decided to raise her back in Star City. She was a fully dedicated and proud mother who loved her daughter fiercely and wholeheartedly.
That was one of the peaceful seasons of her life, where she found great contentment bringing up her daughter and building a successful business. After selling her business, Elaine started working at the Star City Credit Union, which was a terrific fit, as she was brilliant with numbers and loved balancing the books and helping people with their finances.
When her daughter was grown, she met her life partner Randy, and it would become a relationship that would stand the test of time. Over 35 years, they built a wonderful life and beautiful home, where friends and family were always welcomed and well cared for. She loved her five grandchildren deeply and visits to grandma and Randy’s farm were a childhood highlight for each grandchild. She could grow anything, and her gardens were always full of beautiful vegetables that she loved to share.
She was a passionate collector of antiques, and her singing voice left all who listened in absolute awe. If you closed your eyes to listen, you would swear it was Patsy Cline singing just for you.
Elaine was the second-eldest of five children and was predeceased by her parents William and Evelyn White, her brother Rodney White and her brother-in-law Roger Dobmeier. She is survived by her life partner Randy Jacklin, daughter Shannon Sutherland, son-in-law Michael Souster, sisters Geraldine White and Joyce Dobmeier, brother Arnold White, sister-in-law Valerie White, as well as her five grandchildren, Gage, Adan, Sam, Mali and Kaiti.
Her hard-earned wisdom and wonderful (and slightly mischievous) spirit live on in the generations coming after her who she impacted deeply. She will always be the main character in many great stories, the reason for much laughter and source of happy memories.
