Obituary of John Alexander Audette
John was born April 18, 1943 in Melfort, Saskatchewan to Alma Tomina (Johnson) and Thomas Charles Audette. John grew up on the family farm in Ethelton with his sister and three brothers. Growing up John loved to race snowmobiles, curl and play ball, passions that kept him busy his entire life.
In 1972 John married Laurie Owens from Kinistino. They had three children, Christie Lee & Carrie Lynne, and Matthew John. Living on the original Audette homestead near Ethelton, they raised their family and operated a successful grain farm. In the winter John could be found downhill skiing, curling, playing cards and having coffee with friends and family. John served several years as a councillor for the RM of Flett’s Spring, working to improve the community he lived in all his life.
After John stepped away from farming, he worked at Smith Agencies in Melfort which he greatly enjoyed. Retirement saw John spending time at Tobin Lake in the summer and golfing, while continuing living on the farm. Coffee Row was a favorite place and he could often be found in Tim Horton’s discussing his three favorite topics: politics, the current state of the quarterbacking situation with the Roughriders and water where it shouldn’t be!
In John’s later years, he was blessed to connect with his third daughter, Jamie Lynn (Ede) Laughern of Prince Albert and was so pleased to build a relationship with her and her family.
John was predeceased by his parents Alma Tomina (Johnson) and Thomas Charles (TC) Audette, Robert Charles Stanley (Stan) Audette Sr, sister-in-law Elizabeth (Beth) (Fennell) Audette and infant daughter Christie Lee Audette.
John is survived by his children Jamie Lynn (Ede) Laughren (Shaun Welch), Carrie Lynne (Audette) Yurchuk (Michael), Matthew John Audette, and grandchildren Brenen Gregg (Kiara Peterson), Brooklynn Gregg (Sullivan Smith-Windsor), Erica Yurchuk, Niklas Yurchuk, brothers and best friends Wallace Lyon Moise Audette (Marianne Audette) and Gerald Albert Audette (John’s confidant Joan “Joanie” Audette), sister Ann (Audette) Chapman and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank the incredible doctors & staff at Nirvana Pioneer Villa, the Melfort Hospital and the Royal University Hospital for their loving and dedicated care.
Memorial contributions in memory of John may be directed to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/ Jim Pattisons's Children Hospital.
