Obituary of Irene Klara Scaife

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irene Klara Scaife on October 10, 2025, in
Melfort, SK at the age of 92 years old.
Irene Klara was born August 14, 1933, to Haldor and Evelyn Kristensen of Paddockwood,
Saskatchewan. Irene was the second eldest of 8 children. Irene grew up on the Kristensen
homestead near Paddockwood, where all the kids took part in their busy farm life – tending to the
animals and harvesting and preserving the garden. Irene was an avid softball player and loved to
watch her grandkids play ball and show her prized ball jacket!
Irene married Thomas Scaife on August 14, 1953. Tom was in construction building houses and
both Tom and Irene worked in bush camps (Irene as a cook), and ran a motel in Naicam, SK. Tom
and Irene had two children, Hilda and Kenneth.
Irene was a delicious cook and was always willing to help with various ladies groups. Irene enjoyed
spending time with her grandchildren, coffee visits with friends and taking part in her bowling
league. Irene was known for taking immaculate care of her possessions – from her house to her
vehicle. Irene loved to reminisce and tell stories of her travels and life adventures.
Irene leaves behind family and friends who will miss her dearly. Children: Hilda Waldner and Ken
(Susan) Scaife; Grandchildren and great grandchildren: Nicole (Jason), Grace and Kate Hoffman;
Jodi (Cameron), Claire, Stella and Brielle Green; Jordan (Jessica), Maverick and Piper Scaife; Jeffrey
(Angela Myrah) Neish and Amber (Blake), Joshua Jordan. Siblings and family: Urla Roach, Norma
Sommerfelt and Alfred Kristensen.
Irene was pre-deceased by her parents; siblings: Hilda Kristensen, Agnes Gregoryk and Karl
Kristensen, Byrdie Zboril; her husband Tommy and great grandson Jackson Hoffman.
A private family graveside gathering will be held at a later date.
