Joan was born on March 13th, 1947, in Melfort, Saskatchewan to James and Kathleen Stewart. She passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2025 in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan at Chateau Providence.
She attended Melinda School and graduated from MCCI in Melfort before earning her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Joan taught school in Calgary, later returning to Melfort where she owned Belle’s, a ladies’ retail store. She completed her career teaching at the Federal Penitentiary in Prince Albert.
Joan enjoyed golfing, curling and traveling and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
The following is from an article clipping that Joan shared with us:
“The day will come when my brain has ceased to function, and my life has stopped...Burn what is left of me, and scatter my ashes to the wind to help the flowers grow. If you must bury something let it be my faults, my weaknesses, and all prejudice against my fellow man. Give my sins to the devil, give my soul to God. If by chance you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.”
In memory of Joan, memorial contributions may be directed to the Chateau Providence P.O.Box 340, St. Brieux, Saskatchewan and /or a Charity of Choice.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held.
