Lucien Francois Fagnou was born on May 15,1929. He departed this earth on December 16, 2025 at the remarkable age of 96 years old.
He attended Pathlow Heights School, in the fall of 1942, Lou left school to help his father with harvest as many young men in the area had joined the war effort. Following the war, he went to agricultural vocational school in Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
In 1955 he married Velma Mudrik. They were blessed by three children: Paul, Ross Edward and Lorraine. Summers were spent farming and during the winters, employment was found in Northern Alberta and NWT as an oil field mechanic/welder.
After purchasing a half section from his father in 1963, Lou built a new house and moved his family there in the spring of 1964. Farming was now full time, which continued until 2005 when he and Velma moved to a new house in St. Brieux. Unable to step away from farming entirely, he helped Marcel and Craig Fagnou harvest every year after, including this fall. He participated in 83 harvests.
Lou’s passions in life were diverse. He loved aviation and spent many hours in the air. He and Velma travelled all over the world. Lou was a voracious reader and a skilled researcher. He was passionate about politics and kept himself well versed in world events. However, Lou’s greatest passion was his grand and great grandchildren. He loved to entertain. He was an active member of the community. He was well known for his quiet humor and outstanding code of ethics. His strength of character and quiet confidence shone as he so unselfishly helped build our future.
Not one to complain, he was fiercely independent, and a pragmatic man who led by example.
In his later years, if asked if he required assistance, his answer invariably was “Everything’s perfect, couldn’t be better”.
He left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
