James Stenhouse

Obituary of James Alexander Stenhouse

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jim Stenhouse was born in 1939 the only son of Mary and Alexander (Sandy) Stenhouse. The family lived in the McAllister district, close to Star City, on the family farm, which was later recognized as a heritage farm, having been in the family since 1902.
Jim completed his schooling at McAllister school. He went on to help his dad on the farm, before starting work for Canada Post. In 1964 Jim attended technical school in Moose Jaw, taking a radio and T.V. course. He loved tinkering with electronics.
Right from being a young child Jim enjoyed fishing with his dad. He carried on right up until his late 70’s, enjoying fishing trips with friends particularly up at Lac La Ronge.
In his late teens Jim started riding motorcycles with friends and continued on until almost eighty years old. Jim loved driving around the countryside in his truck. He always had his dog with him as a travelling companion.
In the early 1970’s Jim started going to Apache Junction in Arizona, to spend winters with his parents. On one such trip Jim met Marg from Saskatoon. She was also a snowbird. They became close friends and explored Arizona together. One of their favorite pastimes was driving into the desert and enjoying a picnic.
Jim bought a motorhome and he and Marg went on a big road trip to Alaska. Sadly in 2018 Marg passed away.
When Jim decided to sell his farmland he sold to his good friends and neighbours, Pat and Penny Armstrong.
In 2019, when Jim was no longer able to travel, he bought a house trailer in Star City and lived there for one year. He then moved into Melfort where he lived independently for about 1 1/2 years, before health issues necessitated him moving to Nirvana for 2-3 years, before moving into Parkland Place.
Throughout his life Jim enjoyed the company of his friends from Melfort and Star City, and his winter friends in Arizona.
Jim is Survived by cousins Larry O’Connor, Colleen Wilson, Bruce Stenhouse and Don Stenhouse.
