Obituary
Today we are here to celebrate the life of Muriel Alice Morgans.
Muriel was the youngest of three children born to George and Irena Gates on December 13, 1926 in Readlyn, Saskatchewan. Muriel, her brother Archie and sister Blanche were raised by their father on the family farm near Readlyn after their mother became gravely ill. Muriel attended school at Davyroyd. After graduating, Muriel trained as a Registered Nurse at Regina General Hospital and received the Florence Nightingale Award; one of the highest awards given to a graduating nurse.
Muriel went to work in Melfort, where she met her loving husband Frank Morgans. They were married on December 9, 1950. They raised their five children Bill, Lynn, Judy, Sandra, and Ken on the family farm in the Willowdale District. Muriel worked alongside Frank on the farm trucking grain, driving the combine, and/or bailing hay. They made quite a team and loved to laugh and tease each other. The best times in Muriel’s life were when all of the family would get together. She strongly believed that family is a precious gift. Muriel continued nursing at Melfort Hospital, and after 26 years, became the Director of Care at Nirvana Care Home and Pioneer Lodge until her retirement.
Muriel loved to cook, entertain, and travel with friends. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, card making, scrapbooking, and reading. She volunteered her time and was on the Melfort Food Bank, the District Health, and Local Housing boards. She belonged to the Willowdale Willing Workers Club and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship that this group provided. Church was an important part of Muriel’s life; she had a unwavering faith in God.
She is predeceased by her mother Irena, father George, brother Archie, sister Blanche, and other family members. Muriel is survived by her husband Frank; children Bill (Linda), Lynn (Jack), Judy (David), Sandra, and Ken (Raylene); 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and other family members.
Today Muriel is in the house of the Lord; the love for her family will live on forever. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 17, 2015 at 2:00p.m. from the St. James Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dave MacPherson officiating. Interment to follow at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Muriel may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society.
