Thelma Marguerite Paynter was born in Melfort to parents Sylvia & Wilbur Paynter on July 21, 1929. She passed away peacefully April 17, 2015. Thelma was educated in Melfort and later graduated in 1951 as a Registered Nurse from Holy Family Hospital and School of Nursing, Prince Albert. Thelma’s nursing career included three years at Prince Albert TB Sanatorium, 19 years as a Supervisor in Paediatrics at Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton, 20 years in Melfort as a Supervisor at Parkland Regional Care Centre where she worked until retiring in 1994. Thelma married Douglas John Pitchford January 30, 1970 and they were married 15 years till Doug’s passing in June 1985. Thelma had a rich and happy retirement life. She loved her little dog Bruno. She enjoyed her home and garden and her hobby, bird watching. She did babysitting for many of her great nieces and nephews, always willing to spend time with them. Sadly for the past 9 years Thelma’s home has been Parkland Place. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to those at Parkland who contributed every day to her comfort and care. Thelma is survived by her siblings Walter & Donna Paynter and Muriel Paynter; her Uncle Bill Stewart as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her grandparents George & Etta Stewart, Robert & Mary Paynter; her parents Wilbur & Sylvia Paynter; husband Douglas Pitchford; brother Robert (Margaret) Paynter; sister Lorene (Colin) Harcourt; niece Sylvia William and nephew Donald Schmidt. Funeral Services were held on Tueday April 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Melfort Funeral Home with Pastor Dave MacPerson officiating. Interment followed in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Thelma may be directed to the Parkland Place Resident Council.
