With family at his side, Maurice Nelson passed away into the presence of Jesus at the Carrot River Health Centre on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Maurice was born on June 10, 1916 to parents Olaf and Anna Nelson on their homestead east of Kinistino. He was the youngest of six children. On October 14, 1938, he married Myrtle Strandberg. They operated a small farm east of Kinistino, where they raised six children. Maurice remained on the farm after Myrtle passed away. He later married Jean Sandness in October, 1990. He enjoyed life on the farm and thrived on being outdoors. He could fix almost anything and would often make his own machines, which he called "special patents". Later in life, he moved to Diefenbaker Centre in Melfort, which was a challenging adjustment after living on the farm. After a short stay at Nirvana Assisted Living, he moved to the Carrot River Health Centre in 2013, where he thrived and enjoyed life. Maurice had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior. He was active in church leadership; such as teaching Sunday School, special music, and speaking from time to time. Music was always a big part of Maurice’s life. He taught himself to play several musical instruments, including: guitar, violin, accordion, and harmonica. He loved to sing; especially duets with Mom. Maurice was predeceased by his parents, Olaf and Anna Nelson; wives Myrtle and Jean; siblings Signe, Betty, Selma, Arthur, and Ethel; son-in-law Ernest Holmquist; and granddaughter Erin Nelson. Left to mourn are his children: Joan (Karstein) Thompson, Ron Nelson, Eldeen (Alvin) Johnson, Lorne (Yvonne) Nelson, Les (Del) Nelson, and Terry (Lorna) Nelson; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
