Obituary
Edna Armina (Mayner) Cann, 87, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019.
Edna was born on the family farm in the Naicam area of Saskatchewan on January 18, 1932, the daughter of the late George and Emma (Schulz) Mayner. She was raised on the farm with her three brothers and one sister and attended Home School. As a young woman Edna left the family farm to pursue work in Naicam at the Rosenberg Store and then in Wynyard working for Dr. Pollack’s family.
Edna married the love of her life Clarence (Fred) Cann on November 8, 1952 and they started their life together in Flin Flon, Manitoba. In 1959, work had the family moving to Snow Lake, Manitoba where Edna and Fred raised their family of four. When their youngest child was school age, Edna began a part time job for HBM&S. Upon retirement in 1988, Edna and Fred moved "back home", settling in Melfort, Saskatchewan, renewing old friendships and enjoying new ones. They resided in Melfort until 2016.
Edna’s family meant the world to her. She was first and foremost a wife, a mother, and a homemaker. Edna was very talented when it came to handiwork. She was skilled at sewing, embroidery, knitting, and crocheting, any other craft she picked up along the way. It was very common for Edna to be up into the wee hours finishing a project. She was an accomplished cook and baker and loved nothing more than to make a meal for her family, often making more than one main dish to please everyone. She especially loved to spoil her grandchildren with their favourite treat. Her freezers were always full and the fruit shelves held a bounty of homemade preserves. Edna loved flowers and took pride in her beautiful flowerbeds. Edna’s faith was also very important to her and she put her faith in action by giving back in both her church and community.
Edna is survived by her daughter Beverly Erickson (Kenneth), Ryan and Brian, her son Gordon Cann (Ann Taylor), Kimberly, Morgan and Kelsey, her son Andrew Cann (Shelly Wick), Penny and Angel, her daughter Bernice Feely (Duane), Allison and Eric, and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Dale Mayner, her sister Betty Mayner, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edna is predeceased by her husband Clarence (Fred) Cann, her grandson Jeffery Cann, her parents George and Emma (Schulz) Mayner, and her brothers Vernon Mayner and Harold Mayner.
Thank you for your support and prayers during this difficult time. Your words of comfort and expressions of kindness are greatly appreciated.
Memorial contributions in memory of Edna may be directed to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, Pleasantdale Cemetery Fund and/or Pleasantdale Cemetery Chapel.
