Obituary
Leo Andre Gallays was born May 20th, 1943 to Arsene & Alice Gallays. He was one of twelve children. As a child, he was very involved in 4-H. He took great pride in the livestock he showed. He was also very athletic and involved in numerous sports until his early thirties.
In 1968, he married his wife of 40 years, Marie Varga. They had five children: Bart, Shannon and the girls – Jolynne, Kristen & Melissa (one hockey player and four ballerinas as he would always say).
Leo always had a passion for fixing all things mechanical. It didn’t matter what it was, he took pleasure in fixing something broken and making it work again.
Leo enjoyed being around people. He could be found most days at the office telling jokes and true stories with “slight” embellishments.
In 2004, Leo had a major stroke. While this left him unable to pull wrenches anymore, his ingenuity was always present. He creatively invented many projects for friends and family to assist him with.
In 2012, Leo moved to Smeaton. He lived at North Haven and enjoyed teasing his caregivers and feeding his squirrels.
Leo was blessed to have several grandchildren, whom he adored. He looked forward to his visits with them and would brag every chance he could about them.
Leo is survived by his children: Bart (Michele) – Quin, Sabrina (Matt) - Aurora, Dexter & Elizabeth; Shannon (Jeff) Elder – Brittany & Zachary; Jolynne – Landon & Kyara; Kristen (Tracy) – Talin; and Melissa (Craig) Bandura. He is also survived by his siblings: Aurore (Jack) McCleary, Ed (Ann), Lorraine (Jack) Marksteiner, Dolores (Ray) Fagnou, Therese (Bill) Mulford, Phil (Eleanor), Rosemarie (Gary), Bert, and John (Sheila); brothers and sisters-in-law Paulette Gallays, Francis (Donna) Varga, Jim (Jo-Ann) Varga, George (Debby) Varga, Ann (Denise) Varga; John Varga and Don (Sandy) Varga; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Leo was predeceased by his wife Marie, his parents Arsene & Alice, and his brothers Roland & Francis.
