Obituary
Ordella May Strachan was born February 5, 1923 to James and Margaret O’Brien. She grew up on their homestead east of Pleasantdale, in the Lucan District. Della took grades 1 through 8 and grade 9 correspondence at Lucan School, grade 10 at Pleasantdale, grade 11 at Melfort, and grade 12 at Pleasantdale. Della went on to complete teacher training at Moose Jaw. She taught for 4 1/2 years in various schools starting at Willowdale, then a school north of Melfort, Bangor near Yorkton and lastly, Sweetwater north of Beatty. It was at this time Della started dating George Strachan, and they were married on December 14, 1946, a union that lasted 62 years until George’s passing in September of 2009. Della was a teacher, farm wife, mother and retail worker. She worked at the Pleasantdale Co-op, Melfort’s Stylerite, Betty’s Dress Shop, and finally the Met. She had a life long interest in all sports and participated in many growing up. Della kept abreast of the world’s news through the Star Phoenix, television, and internet. She adapted well to change, and embraced technology as a means of keeping her close to the ones she loved. Della loved people, especially children. Her happiest times were spent visiting with family and friends around her kitchen table. Many, many people sat with her over the years, and none left hungry! Della will always be remembered for her love for her family, her interest in many sports, but particularly, her deep love of hockey, and her sharp mind and memory! Della is survived by her children Daniel (Linda) Strachan, Rick (Gale) Strachan, Penny (Alan) McLane, Blair (Cheryl) Strachan, grandchildren Lindsay (Jillian) Strachan, Tyson (fiance Kate Ankoviak) Strachan, Christine (Scott) Taylor, Shawn (Courtney) Russin, Kayla and Nicole Strachan. great-grandchildren Aiden and Reese Strachan, Jennae and Maelle Taylor, Kirstin Hansen, Steven Wozniak, Tarynce, Sienna, Alexander, and Victoria Russin, sister Vi Hill and sister-in law Sheila O’Brien and numerous nieces and nephews.
