Obituary
Julia Veronica Chytyk (nee Asztalos) was born on March 26, 1931 and passed away peacefully on February 28, 2015 at Parkland Place in Melfort. She was born in the Yellow Creek area and lived on her parent’s farm until 1948 when she married Mike Chytyk. They moved to a farm north of Kinistino. Two children were born to Mike and Julia – Barry in 1952 and Beverly in 1955. In 1961 they moved a few miles to a new farm where they lived and farmed until 1980. Mom worked as a housekeeper for a few families in Kinistino over the years as well as at the Kinistino Union Hospital. Mike and Julia retired to Melfort in 1980 and Julia began to baby sit for a couple of families. The children of these families still think of her as Grandma. Mom was a good cook and always made sure no one ever left her table hungry. She gardened for many years, baking for her grandchildren, and loved making perogies by the dozen. Mom loved her little 1986 Ford Tempo and when she finally stopped driving over a year ago, she was thrilled to have her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Mandy and Neil, take her little car to Lloydminster and care for it just as she had. Julia enjoyed attending her church when her health permitted. When her health required considerably more care giving, Julia moved to Parkland Place in September 2014, where she resided until her passing. Julia was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1987, her parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 9 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law. Julia is survived by her son Barry (Lea); daughter Beverly Zorn; granddaughters Mandy (Neil) Morrow, Kellie (Darryl) Dunwoody & Faren Piwniuk; grandsons Dustynn Zorn, Chris (Nikki) Zorn, Kelsey (Lavina) Piwniuk & Michael Solonas; her great grandchildren Lyle, Easton, Chanté, Tianna & Storm; 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 3 sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends, including her dear life long friend Betty Lewicki. Julia will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Service of remembrance was held at Melfort Evangelical Covenant Church on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Gilkinson officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Julia, may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or Parkland Place.
