Obituary
Due to Covid-19 the Funeral Service scheduled for Robert on Thursday will be for Family Members and Close Friends. Please follow link below to watch service. Robert Stewart Funeral Robert Charles Stewart was born on January 23, 1941, in Melfort, Saskatchewan, to William and Anna (Stasiuk) Stewart. His sister, Helen, was born in October 1942. Robert grew up on the family farm in the Pleasant Valley area. He attended Melinda School in his early years and went on to graduate from MCCI in 1959. Agriculture was his passion, so he continued his education at the University of Saskatchewan and convocated with his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1963. He went on to work in the U of S Soils lab for the next nine winters, returning each spring to farm with his father. On February 18, 1972, Robert married Brenda (Brenne). They had two children, Rhonda and David. Robert and Brenda moved full time to the farm in the spring of 1973 where they resided and farmed together until they “retired” to Melfort in 2012. He had the opportunity to work alongside their son on the family farm until David took over the main responsibilities of the farm. Robert continued to assist David with farm work during spring and harvest each year until his passing. Farming was not a job to him, it was part of who he was. Robert loved spending time with his family. Many summers were spent camping at the lake, boating, fishing and visiting around the campfire. He wasn’t always the best fisherman, but he never gave up the pursuit of the “big one”. Robert looked forward to Christmas with his family every year. He often made an appearance as Santa Claus at the Pleasant Valley Christmas party and later carried on the tradition for his grandsons. He was extremely proud of his grandsons, Liam and Kelton, and spent many hours watching them play hockey and their other activities. He enjoyed the past fall season as his grandsons were able to help with the harvest because there were three generations working on the family farm. Robert was predeceased by his father, William and mother, Anna and his parents-in-law, Bernard and Evelyn Brenne. He will be remembered by his wife, Brenda; his children, Rhonda (Ivan) Stankowski and David (Kelly) Stewart; two grandsons, Liam and Kelton Stewart; his sister Helen (Dennis) Verokosky; nephews, Kelly (Rita) Verokosky and Jeff Verokosky as well as many cousins.
