Obituary
Catherine Lynne Monsees was born Feb. 3, 1944 in Calgary, AB to Harold and Ruby Weir. She moved to Melfort, SK as an infant due to Ruby’s poor health. Lynne grew up in Melfort, playing basketball, attending the Anglican Church, singing in choirs, entertaining, and graduated from MCCI in 1962. Lynne attended Art College in Calgary, studying commercial art and worked in Art Dept. of the Federated Co-op in Saskatoon. She married her high school sweetheart, Laurie Monsees, and had daughters Terri-Lynne & JoAnne, and later adopted sons Rob & Blaine. Lynne had a broad spectrum of life experiences from being a “farmette” to a soloist. She very much enjoyed friends and met new ones continually. Lynne was always a good listener and genuine friend to all she met. She took the time to spread happiness to all she was with. She enjoyed singing in choirs and as a soloist, along with designing a multitude of creations using various art forms from drawing to sewing. She was always on time and gave 110% to any task, whether it be driving the combine or organizing a class reunion. One of her sayings was, “Let’s get it done.” Lynne enjoyed sewing and made most of her children’s clothes. She loved creating, entertaining, visiting, clowning, Shriner events, dancing, sightseeing, Eastern Star, choirs in her summer & winter homes, calligraphy, quilting, Good Sams RVing, winters in Arizona, Old Hatters of Yuma, Legion #30, Melfort Seniors Club, Melfort Museum volunteer, instructing aqua-fitness classes, MAD, teddy bears, angels, seasonal celebrations, lifeguarding, roses, meals on wheels, jewellery, decorating, Anglican Church, lay reader, entertaining in seniors residences, swimming, Zumba, and especially designing & dressing up in her costumes for special events. She was always a doer. If something needed doing, she was always up to the task and recruited others to join in her many volunteer projects. Lynne especially enjoyed spearheading the class of ’62 reunions. Lynne was always helping people, including “adopting” Eirvin & Lena McConnell, becoming their surrogate daughter. She was recognized for her efforts in being awarded the Melfort Volunteer of the Year, Melfort’s Citizen of the Year and also Lieutenant Governor’s Centennial Medal. Lynne was also a featured artist at the Kerry Vickar Centre. She was past Worthy Matron twice of Melfort OES #96 and was currently the Grand Esther on the provincial OES. She was on the Saskatchewan Diabetes Executive. One of Lynne’s serious, but still fun positions was that of Justice of the Peace and a Marriage Commissioner. She had fun and got great pleasure from marrying couples. After a lengthy struggle with scoliosis, a heart condition and cancerous brain tumors, she was finally free from her suffering on December 2, 2014. Lynne was predeceased by her parents, Harold & Ruby Weir, adoptive father Eirvin McConnell and her Aunt Katie. She leaves to mourn her husband Laurie; daughters Terri-Lynne (Brad) & JoAnne, sons Robert & Blaine; grandchildren Alysha Kathryn, Brady, Nathan, Emily, Peter, Mark, Megan & Mason; in-laws Gerri, Ron & Patti and nieces & nephews; adoptive mother Lena McConnell; cousin Stephen (Bev) Weir and many friends in Canada and the USA. Service of remembrance was held at All Saints' Anglican Church Melfort, SK on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Patricia Langlois officiating. Memorial contributions, in memory of Lynne, may be directed to a charity of choice.
