Obituary
Gladys Luella Beattie was born May 23, 1921 at Beatty, SK, She passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB on March 14, 2019 with her children by her side. Gladys was the daughter of Archibald A and Luella Ferguson of Beatty, SK. Her father was a WWI veteran and grain buyer. Her mother was the town post mistress. She was the second of four daughters and had many great memories of growing up in Beatty. She enlisted in Canadian Woman's Army Corp (CWAC) in WWII, stationed in many locations across Canada and was mustered out as Staff Sargent at the end of the war. After the war she attended Normal School in Saskatoon, acquired her degree in Education and made many life long friends. She married Bob Beattie from Kinistino in 1950. They enjoyed 50 years together on the farm north of Kinistino and many winters in Mesa, AZ until Bob passed in 2000. Gladys made a difference teaching 100's of students over the years. She was very active in the community. She was instrumental in the construction of Jubilee Lodge and a founding member of the Kinistino Half Century Club. In the summers and after retirement, she travelled to many countries around the world. Gladys was the best mother, grandmother and great grandmother you could want. She instilled an expectation for continuous education, travel and exploration in her children and grandchildren. She was a gifted quilter and made numerous quilts for family and friends. Her stained glass work provides us with permanent memories of her talents. In 2012 Gladys moved from her own home in Kinistino to a retirement suite in Calgary to be closer to her grandchildren.
