Obituary
Velma Mae Burnett Booker was born on Nov. 26, 1923 on the Fennell farm, three miles east of Melfort. Velma was the daughter of Ethel and Allan Thompson of Siver Park. Velma was one of nine children, namely, Viola, Vern, Velma, Glen, Lyle, Lorne, Grace, Charles, and baby Jesse.
In June 1942, Velma Thompson married John William Burnett. The early years of their married life were spent in Silver Park. While in Silver Park, John and Velma were blessed with a daughter, Karen.
In 1959, the Burnetts moved to Crooked River and operated a hotel for nine years. They continued in hotel business buying the Star City Hotel and later the Lac Vert Hotel.
After retiring from their business interests, John and Velma purchased a house in Pleasantdale. After the passing of John, Velma lived with her daughter Karen and son-in-law Barry where she helped with her three grandchildren, Terry, Darren, and Kara-Dawn and with the operation of the Pleasantdale Hotel.
Velma married Jack Booker in 1981. They lived in Star City in the summer and in Arizona in the winter for twenty years. Velma enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Marean lake, travelling, crafting, and visiting with friends in her retirement years.
Velma passed away on November 2, 2020. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Karen Jordan, grandchildren Terry (Kim), Darren (Angela), Kara-Dawn (Colin), great grandchildren, Weston and Griffin Jordan and Ava and Ali Fredin, siblings, Lorne (Phyllis) Thompson, Charles (Ellen) Thompson, and Grace Spencer and numerous other family members and lifelong friends.
