Loyd Arthur was born in Dahlton on December 11, 1928 and attended Kitako School. He married Violet Holter on September 29th, 1949 and they were together for 65 plus years. They farmed in the Dahlton area until he retired at the age of 65 when his farming turned into gardening. Through out the years he trapped, hunted and fished to help with the costs of raising eight children. He spent many hours watching moose, deer, birds and other wildlife that came to visit. He often said he didn’t mind feeding them because they had helped feed him and his family for many years. Loyd was often teasing, joking and playing practical jokes on anyone who would fall for them. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, teaching them to whistle with a blade of grass and how to make a whistle from a twig in the spring. They learned how to walk on a barrel or on stilts, how to grow popcorn already popped on the plant and numerous other things. He enjoyed playing and watching hockey, ball and curling. He was predeceased by his parents Annie and Ib, sisters Dora and Anne, brothers Ib, Leo and Jimmy, numerous brother in laws and sister in laws, granddaughters Chantal and Julie, and great grandchildren Matisyn and Annabelle. He is survived by his wife Violet, his children Lyle (Theresa), Arlene (Jean-Guy), Sharon (Chuck), Janice (Dan), Gail (Bill), Brenda (Bob), Crystal (Kelley), Kelly, 25 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, siblings Ronnie, Betty, Joan, Max (Snook), Earl and Allan. Loyd passed away peacefully on August 13, 2015 at the age of 86. Blessed be his memory. Gravside Services were held on Tuesday August 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Dahlton Lutheran Church Cemetery with Pastor Lisa Skogsrud officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Loyd may be directed to the Dahlton Lutheran Cemetery Fund and/or a Charity of One's Choice.
