Hildred Marion Geddes was born August 24, 1921 in Folly Lake, Nova Scotia to parents Harold and Gertrude Geddes. She attended school in Folly Lake and worked at Stanfield’s Factory in Truro, Nova Scotia. In 1942 she joined the RCAF Women’s Division. She was stationed at Mont Joli, PQ prior to going overseas in December 1943. She was stationed at Bomber Command in England for 2 years. When she returned from overseas she attended Success Business College in Truro, Nova Scotia. She met and married Wilfred Strinholm on July 17, 1946. She worked at the Halifax shipyards until they moved to Melfort in the fall of 1946. A year later they moved out to the family farm where they resided until retiring to Melfort in 1977. Hildred passed away on February 26, 2015 at the Melfort Hospital at the age of 93, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred on January 18, 1988; daughter Geraldine on July 7, 2013; her parents Harold and Gertrude Geddes; sisters Hazel, Jean, Nellie, Bertha, Dorothy and Muriel; brothers Harold and Willard. Left to mourn are her son Bruce (Lois) of Calgary, AB; daughters Norma (Ron) Mullin of Raymond, AB and Barbara (Gerald) Porter of Kinistino, SK and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hildred was greatly respected and loved by her family and all who knew her. She will be sadly missed. Funeral service was held at Melfort Evangelical Covenant Church on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Gilkinson officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Hildred, may be directed to the Melfort Hospital Palliative Care Unit and/or a charity of choice.
