CRAIG AUSTIN MITCHELL Mar 3, 1963 – Aug 21, 2021 It is with heavy hearts that we mark the passing of Craig (‘Mitch’) Mitchell. Born in Kinistino to Betty and Leonard Mitchell, he was a large-hearted guy who was deeply loved and will be missed by many. Improving the lives of others was something he cared about all his life. After graduating from KCHS, Craig got a BA in Psychology from the U of S and got a job as a Program Coordinator at Yarrow Youth Farm, a residential facility for young offenders outside of Saskatoon. His work there included the development of an Employment Readiness Program for the youth at the farm that was highly successful, resulting in job placements for many of them. He also initiated regular weight-training sessions as part of the youths’ weekly schedule and participated with them in activities such as pow wows, hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing, and team sports. Craig was liked and respected by the young men at Yarrow, and he worked with underprivileged and at-risk people throughout his career. Craig also cared about the environment and was part of the team that initiated and operated Saskatoon’s first curbside recycling program. Craig was smart, funny, generous, and loving. He was gentle with children and animals, supportive of his friends and family, and in tune with nature. His rugby and fishing buddies will remember him as an important part of their world. Spending time with his friends would always bring a smile to his face, and he once said that his idea of Heaven would be a day on the lake with his buddies and a case of beer, just fishing and enjoying the trees, the breeze, and the companionship. In recent years he moved to Victoria, where he again worked with disadvantaged youth and adults and went crabbing, fishing, and exploring Vancouver Island. Craig enriched the lives of those who knew him. May he rest in peace and endless sunshine.
