Obituary
Fernand Joseph Roufosse was born to Anatole and Alice Roufosse on October 3, 1917 on the family farm in the Dahlton district. Fern attended school at the Sigstead School. After his schooling Fern worked at various jobs in the local and surrounding areas. During 1942-1945 Fern served in the Canadian Armed Forces in the artillery division protecting the Canadian coastline stationed in Prince Rupert, B.C. After the army Fern and his sister Cecile started the first coffee shop in St. Front called the Brussel Café. They operated it for a year then sold it. Afterwards Fern purchased the family farm from his Dad in 1947. He married Alice Senez from St. Front on February 22, 1949. In the first year they built the family home and raised their five children. He was very proud in 2012 to have received the Century Farm Award. Fern was a good husband and father and enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, the independence and challenges of farm life. He always remained positive even though there were many rough years of extreme weather conditions saying "there’s always next year." Fern was always very social enjoying family, visiting neighbours and willing to help anyone in the community. He was asked recently what his secret was for a long life, his reply was ‘gotta roll with the times." His positive outlook in life made him accept whatever came his way. Fern’s highlight of this past year was the celebration of his 100th birthday. It was very important to him to share this special occasion with family and friends. On Sunday July 22, 2018 Fern suddenly passed away at the Melfort Union Hospital at the age of 100. He leaves to mourn his four children: Denis (Bonnie) Saskatoon, Gisele (Gerry) Davis, Campbell River, B.C., George (Kim) Saskatoon, Monica (Doug) Walker Melfort, his grandchildren; Bradly (Bonnie), Jodi (John), Kelly, Michelle (Clayton), Bradley, Joey, Deanna, Melanie (Dan), Leonard (Chelsey), Dawn (Christian), David as well as 12 great grandchildren. His brothers Roger (Gertrude), Surrey, B.C., Lawrence of Surrey, B.C., Olga Rendek, Saskatoon. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Alice, son Darel, his parents, brothers Herb, Tony, Roland, Henry and Albert, sisters Marie and Cecile. Fern was respected by family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all those left to mourn his loss.
