Dot passed away in her 97th year. She was predeceased by her husband, George; son, Ron (Gill); survived by her daughters, Gay Nordstrom (Jim) and Joy Robinson (Randy) and son Greg (Jo-Anne); ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Dot grew up on the family farm south of Dafoe where she enjoyed a close relationship with her sister, Beth and brother, Ian. They often played sports with other farm families and Dot continued playing ball and cross-country skiing into her sixties. She learned to drive at the age of fourteen to take her mother to town. She carried on driving accident free from then (the first twenty without a driver’s licence) until she elected not to renew her driver’s licence on her 94th birthday. She graduated from business college in Saskatoon before marrying George in 1946 and then worked outside the home occasionally until the family moved to Melfort, where she was employed by the Department of Social Services, retiring as Office Manager in 1986. Dot loved travelling in the winter to Hawaii in her early retirement years. Summers were meant for ‘going to the lake’ or being outside in her yard. She was a Toronto Blue Jays fan, kept abreast of current affairs and had a talent for painting. Dot was recognized for the quality of her character by her extended family and friends spanning generations. She was computer savvy, banking online and communicating regularly with children and grandchildren. Her favourite saying was ‘a rose blooms where it is planted’ and that described her approach to life. She looked forward to and made the most of every day. One of her granddaughters summed it up stating “I would say you are lucky to have good friends and family but it’s not because of luck, it’s because of nine decades of being a nice person and an inspiration to all”. At Dot’s request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please honour her memory by making the most of every day.
