Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Estelle Bitz at Melfort Union Hospital in Melfort, Saskatchewan. She passed quickly of cancer. She was born on July 10, 1941 to Ella (nee Mevel ) and Athanase Lavoie. She will join her husband Dennis of 55 years, who passed away in 2020. After working as an office administrator in Calgary and Saskatoon, she decided to attend Teacher’s College. Her first teaching job was in her hometown of St. Brieux where she met and married the love of her life, Dennis Bitz. They wed on December 30, 1964 at St. Brieux Roman Catholic Church. Together they raised two girls, Jacquie and Yvonne. Estelle had a strong Catholic faith. The teacher was always a part of her as she encouraged education, French, grammar and a work ethic. Family was most important to her and she had a special bond with her granddaughter Danielle and great-granddaughter Lauren. She loved playing cards, golf and going for coffee, and meals and Sunday brunch with her friends. Left to lovingly remember her are her daughter Jacqueline Bourdon of Saskatoon, granddaughter Danielle (Tyler) and great-granddaughter Lauren; and daughter Yvonne Draude (Harry) of Naicam. She was predeceased by her parents Ella and Athanase Lavoie, her father and mother-in-law John and Irene Bitz, her son-in-law Dan Bourdon, brothers-in-law, Eugene, Ronald, Paul, Patrick, niece Amanda Bitz, sisters-in-law Jeanette Bosch and Mae Bitz, brothers-in-law George Marchand, Wilf Button, and Phillip Bosch. She also leaves to mourn her brothers and sisters Lionel (Mary) Lavoie, Yvette Marchand, Allan (Lorraine) Lavoie, Albert (Brenda) Lavoie and Lorraine (Al) Hurd as well as many dear nieces and nephews and their families. She also leaves to mourn her brother-in-law Richard Bitz, sisters-in-law Gwen Button, Colleen Bitz and Marge Bitz. We would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Melfort Union Hospital and at Nirvana Assisted Living who took excellent care of Mom in her last few months. We would also like to thank Mom’s neighbours Trevor and Andrea Schaab for always being there to lend a helping hand no matter what the task was. Memorial contributions in memory of Estelle may be directed to St. Brieux R.C. Church, St. Brieux R.C. Cemetery Fund and /or North Central Health Care Foundation P.O. Box 1480 Melfort, Sask. S0E 1A0
