Gerald George Bedard passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, at Melfort Union Hospital with his beloved wife Phyllis and sister Jean by his side.
A farmer to the core, Gerry will be lovingly remembered for his peaceful, welcoming smile at Melfort Union Hospital, his talent for building the impossible in his workshop at the farm and cherished morning coffee gatherings with friends. His legacy as a man of faith, honoring husband, steadfast father, and grandfather will carry on in his family.
His love for family and adventure was evident in annual trips such as summer at Waskesiu which satisfied his love of fishing along with the neighbours’ famous fish fry at the camp kitchen. The many trips to Whiterock visiting his cherished in-laws, Charlie and Doris Leask, were a summer highlight and ski trips to Whitefish, Montana made winters a time of adventure along with many other joyful experiences.
Gerry was predeceased by his father, Joby, and mother, Ada. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Phyllis; two sons, Geoff (Jennifer) Bedard and Doug Bedard; four cherished grandchildren, Josh, Karlee, Donavin, and Hanna and great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Jamieson. Gerry is also survived by his siblings, Brian (Kathy) Bedard, Jean-Anne (Rod) Siedel, and Doug (Marilyn) Leask, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.
For 42 years, Gerry dedicated himself to caring for others at the Melfort Hospital, and in his final days, the staff tenderly and graciously returned that care, supporting him with love and compassion. With involvements such as Kinsman, Gerry was able to serve his community alongside friends using his many skills. Through music and volunteering a light was brought to life in Gerry as he found yet another way to love on those around him. Music was the theme that carried his life story as it wove together events, parades and fundraisers bringing closer those around him . In retirement, he joyfully played music almost daily with friends, sharing his passion for singing, guitars and gospel music. There is no doubt that he holds a guitar in his hands today, playing a heartfelt tune for us from above.
Memorial contributions in memory of Gerry may be directed to the Melfort Kinsmen and /or Melfort & District Museum.
