Obituary
Leona Ann Carter, born October 31, 1943, passed away February 20th, 2022 after a courageous struggle with dementia. Leona is predeceased by her loving husband of almost 52 years, Clarence Carter, parents Harold and Janet Bower, brother Samuel and sister Valerie and parent in-laws Stella and Clarence Carter. She is survived by her daughters Connie Carter and Lori Carter, son in law, Dan Southam, grand daughters, Jacee and Dannee, step grandson Ryan Woodley and step great grandchildren, Rylee and Ryder, her sister Sandra and brother Danny. Leona was born in Edam, SK and resided on a farm near Fairholme. She attended school at Parkdale Country School until she moved to North Battleford for her senior year of high school. Education was important to, Leona. Following graduation, Leona attended Teacher’s College in Saskatoon and took her first job in Melfort at Burke School as a teacher. Leona and Clarence were married, August 21, 1965, and began building a home and family in Fairy Glen. After starting a family, Leona chose to be a “stay at home mom” and an active community member. Her patient nature and love for teaching spilled over into an active Brownie Leader and Sunday School Superintendent. Leona loved to curl and her intelligence made for well-organized and implemented bonspiels at the FGCC. Leona enjoyed a huge garden and loved to beautify with flowers. The dahlia roots that were planted and harvested each year, lined the front edge of her 50-foot garden. Red and white petunias bloomed with love welcoming you into their home. In later years, it became numerous pots of pansies on the deck. Leona was an active part of C & L Apiaries with her husband, Clarence. Many of you will remember seeing Leona at Farmers’ Market with a truck load of honey. She knew who still wanted seasonal honey for their baking and canning needs. Leona retired from the Travelodge Coffee Shop when she was 65. She loved working with people! Leona also enjoyed traveling in the winter with family and friends and fishing in the summer along the Hanson Lake Road. But, there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her grandchildren. The family would like to invite you to the Fairy Glen Community Centre as lunch will be served by our loving FG community. The interment will be at a later date. The family would like to thank the Parkland staff for their continuous care and love for Leona, Mom, Grandma, over the past 6+ years.
