Obituary
The family of Earl Chapman is saddened to announce his quiet passing on October 5, 2014 at Stensrud Lodge. Earl was born at City Hospital in Saskatoon to William and Gertrude Chapman; the fourth of seven children. Due to drought the family moved from the Floral district to the Meskanaw district in 1934. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan in 1946. In that same year he was one of the founding members of the Laurel Farm Cooperative at Meskanaw. In 1947 he married Elsie Carpenter and together they raised three sons. .Earl kept meticulous minutes of farm meetings and was always proactive in keeping up with the newest farming practices. Earl’s community involvement included being secretary-treasurer of the local Wheat Pool committee and the Ethelton Pastoral Charge of the United Church. He enjoyed many family summer holidays, following his sons’ sporting activities and playing golf and cards. In 1971 Earl and Elsie retired to Melfort. Retirement included trips across North America, winters in the southern United States and odd jobs in Melfort. Earl moved to Saskatoon in 2011 to be closer to his family. Elsie pre-deceased him in 2001. He is survived by his sons Larry (Lorna), Randy(Doreen), Vern(Cheryl), grandchildren Celeste(Jeremy) Ransom, Creighton (Lisa) , Cory (Sherry),and Nathan Chapman, four great-grandchildren; brothers Harold and Bill (Mary) Chapman, sister Alice(Gene) Bader, sisters-in law Yvonne Chapman. Georgina Kleiboer, Elsie Carpenter, brother-in law Leonard Carpenter and numerous nieces and nephews. Service of remembrance was held at Melfort United Church of Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Emmanuel Menyereye officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Earl, may be directed to the Heart & stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan.
