Obituary
The Family of Stanley Oliver Sather is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Stan on Saturday, August 7th at the age of 89 years old, surrounded by his loved ones in Melfort Hospital. Stanley was born October 2, 1931 on the Peter Berstad Family Homestead. The farm was recognized as a Century Family Farm on June 2008- known to all as The Northern Lights Farm. He was the youngest son of Norwegian parents Mathias and Mary Sather. Stan walked 3 miles to attend Dover School with Lillian and Manfred until he completed grade 8 then he started farming with his father. Stan enjoyed life to the fullest; grain farming, operating a dairy farm consisting of Holstein-Friesian cows for 24 years after which he continued grain farming until he retired. Stan always kept a watchful eye on crop development and he also did many tours of the neighborhood. He alway had time for family visits, Carrot River Lutheran Church services, activities and visits with his friends and neighbors. Stan was the treasurer of CRV for many years as well as serving on Church council in various positions. He was passionate regarding CRV and its maintenance for many years. Stan loved country music especially Connie Smith songs and the Grand Old Opry. Bowling was a large part of his life, winning many trophies and enjoying the companionship of his fellow bowlers. His love of Antique cars was a rival to bowling. Stan could identify all makes, models and years of all cars, etc. He always attended car shows, mostly admiring the Cadillacs- his favorite type of car. Stan enjoyed curling, playing cards at the Melfort Seniors and in his own home with friends and family. Crockinole was Stan's favourite game. At the age of Sixty years, Stan married Vera Dianne Anderson on October 24, 1992 at Carrot River Valley Lutheran Church. Instantly Stan became a family man to four children, two son-in laws and a daughter-in law and later on the family increased by 9 grandchildren. During their marriage Stan and Dianne travelled on many bus tours and would often visit Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia to see relatives. Stan and his brother Manny travelled together in Canada and the USA. With God's grace, love of his wife Dianne and his family Stan was able to remain in his home. Gentle, humble, loving Stan has left his earthly home to join his parents Mathias and Mary, his brother Manny and other relatives and friends that have gone before in heaven. Stan is survived by his loving wife Dianne, sister Lillian (Charles) Hopkins. Stepchildren; Ryan (Dianne), Pamela (Kelly), Susanne (Doug) and Crystal (Clayton). Grandchildren; Amanda (Cole), April (Owen), Anna and Michael, Robin, James, Hayley, Orin and Alexander. Nieces and their families Rita (Gordon), Beth (Keith) and Nephew John and his family as well as other nieces and nephews of his extended family. Stan will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Rest in peace Stan. Memorial contributions in memory of Stanley may be directed to the Carrot River Valley Lutheran Church.
